Dr. Tracey-Ann Wellington
Senior Advisor to the Under Secretary of Arms Control and International Security
Dr. Tracey-Ann Wellington is a Senior Advisor to the Under Secretary of Arms Control and International Security at the U.S. Department of State (DOS). In her current role, Dr. Wellington advises the Under Secretary on a wide range of complex and critical foreign and national security issues encompassing nuclear deterrence, nuclear terrorism, nonproliferation, as well as negotiations and advocacy pertaining to treaties and commitments on nuclear and radiological weapons issues.
Previously, Dr. Wellington served in the Office of Nuclear Forensics as the Senior Interagency Coordinator for technical nuclear forensics at the U.S. Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) and as a researcher and technical staff member at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) covering international security and nonproliferation portfolios. Her professional experiences as an American Association for the Advancement of Science’s Science and Technology Fellow in the Office of Weapons of Mass Destruction Terrorism at DOS, a NNSA Graduate Fellow in the Office of Nuclear Export Controls, as well as her academic experiences as an Energy Science and Engineering Fellow through the University of Tennessee’s Bredesen Center and as a National GEM Consortium Fellow at ORNL, has provided her with the knowledge and expertise to bridge scientific practice at the nexus of policy decision-making.
Prior to her roles at the Departments of State and Energy, Dr. Wellington worked in the private sector focused on semiconductor manufacturing and health policy. Dr. Wellington holds a PhD in Energy Science and Engineering from the University of Tennessee, a Master of Science in Materials Science and Engineering from Texas A&M University, and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Physics from Randolph College.
